Extreme architecture: bulding for challenging environments (Hardcover) has new "Design"

What kind of architecture in an extreme environment is created? In response to some of the ultimate challenges in the architecture, they offer buildings, the insights presented in this book in the extremes of architectural thinking. Some of the lessons they, of self-sufficiency teachings in a world with increasingly unstable become generally applicable more. Lessons from terrestrial environments are used for space, while space technology is also applied to the Earth.

Divided into five chapters - hot, cold, high, wet and space - extreme architecture presents 45 examples of newer buildings for demanding environments developed. It contains a desert refuge in southern Arizona, a floating marine research centre, an underground seed depot in North Norway and a South Pole research station. The height, annual precipitation and average temperature of the location begins with a clearly set out table shown each case study. This information is used by photographs the project show accompanied, if necessary, in its surroundings, as well as by drawings, plans and computer renderings.
